CLASS 1 - Years 1 and 2 (& RECEPTION!)

The Year 1 & 2 children (aged 5-7yrs) work alongside the Reception children following developmentally appropriate activities to meet the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum Guidelines. This enables the children to experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage Curriculum and gradually move from a play based approach to age appropriate active learning opportunities.

The children follow a cross curricula 'Schemes and Themes' based curriculum which incorporates the teaching of Science, History, Geography, Design Technology and Art. Literacy, Numeracy and ICT are also integrated into the topic being followed with discrete activities also provided to develop specific reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and ICT learning objectives. Topics are carefully chosen to match the interests of young children and local visits and visitors are invited into school to enable the children to learn from first hand learning opportunities.

Our ultimate aim is to MAKE LEARNING FUN by providing learning opportunities that allow each child to develop and apply a learned skill in ways that are effective, meaningful, motivational and memorable for them. Therefore we incorporate visits, visitors and practical activities to support our current theme. Follow the links to find out more!!
